UWA Pursue Impossible Challenge .
The press release states: " PURSUE IMPOSSIBLE: UWA 3D Art & Film Challenges 2015
http://uwainsl.blogspot.com/

The University of Western Australia (UWA) is happy to announce the launch of 'PURSUE IMPOSSIBLE, the 6th UWA Grand Art Challenge and MachinimUWA VIII with a starting prize pool in excess of L$400,000. Sponsored by Tom Papas & SciFi Film Festival, Reign Congrejo & BOSL, LaPiscean Liberty & SL Artist, AviewTV, Pixel Bits, Virtlantis, Phillip Vought, Carolyn Steele & York University (Canada), Taralyn Gravois, UWA Marketing & Communications, as well as The UWA Virtual Worlds Project. We hope you are inspired by the 'PURSUE IMPOSSIBLE' theme to create many wondrous works of art and film as you have been through the years! (Please note the major rule & special prize guidelines as well as the Audience Participation Prizes for watching the machinima. All machinima will be highlighted on the UWA Blog & SL Artist.)
WHAT: 6th UWA Grand Art Challenge & 8th UWA International Short Film Challenge (MachinimUWA VIII). You may enter the art challenge, the film challenge, or both.
WHEN: Entries close at Midnight SLT, 31st October 2015. Winners will be announced in December 2015.
THEME
The theme is "PURSUE IMPOSSIBLE." Artists & filmmakers can interpret the theme as they see fit. What is your impossible? What is the impossible goal you have conquered, or that you have seen your loved ones or your heroes conquer? What are the things you once thought were impossible, but now are able to overcome? How do virtual worlds help you to visualize, create, and push the boundaries of possibility? What are the things which seem impossible now, which you think you will attempt to hunt down? What are the impossibilities of the mind? of the heart? of the soul? Is it the pursuit of the impossible that takes precedence? Or defeating it? You the artist... You the machinimatographer...You decide.
WHY THIS THEME
Those who pursue what may at first seem impossible are the ones who keep the world turning. What if Ghandhi did not believe he could overcome the impossible for his country? What if Dr Fiona Wood did not believe in second skin for burn victims? What if Professor Barry Marshall did not believe in himself and use himself as a human guinea pig for the benefit of mankind?
The theme 'Pursue Impossible' was chosen in honour of the new brand that UWA unveiled in May 2015. UWA's Karen Carreiro explained, “It says so much about our University – who we are, what we do and how, every single day, our researchers, students and academics are working to shape a better future.”
For those involved in the UWA virtual world presence, it was an honour to see Second Life featuring in the UWA launch!
MAJOR RULES FOR ART
Artwork entered should be able to be interpreted by the casual viewer as being representative of the theme. Where the link to the theme is difficult to ascertain, this should be referenced in a notecard accompanying the work.
Each artist may submit only one entry. There is a 150 LI (land impact) limit. (Note that you may not get around the limit by using temporary objects.)
Copy/Mod/Transfer permissions are not a requirement, however COPY perms are appreciated.
Entries should be submitted along with a completed Artist Notecard (which includes your name, city, name of artwork and a description of artwork) to the drop box in the UWA gallery (SLURL). If you have problems with the receiver, give artwork to Jayjay Zifanwe or FreeWee Ling. These rules and blank notecard templates are available by touching the drop box at the UWA Art Challenge platform.
We discourage the use of parts that you cannot copy and transfer to us for installation. All work must be free of copyright issues. If you utilize any 3rd party materials, such as music/sounds/media, textures, or prefabricated parts, you must have permission from the creator(s) and you should acknowledge their work in your artist's notecard.
If you have special requirements for space, media, etc., please contact FreeWee Ling, curator, for assistance.
Sounds, lighting, particle effects, etc., should be scripted to turn off when not in use. You may be asked to provide a revised entry if it is too intrusive or interferes with the display of other works.
Exceptionally large or complex builds will be placed on platforms above the gallery with a teleport (TP) device and poster on the gallery floor and a return TP on the platform. You may provide a TP object and/or poster (no more than 2 LI) or we can place one for you. TP objects should be set to copy/mod and given to FreeWee Ling to add scripts and to place.
Exceptionally laggy scripts may be rejected or only allowed if revised.
As with all our public programs, an entry may not be accepted if it is excessively abusive, violent, offensive, bullying, harmful, insulting, or contains inappropriate material or excessively foul language. Depictions of explicit sexual activity, as well as material deemed offensive based on race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation are not appropriate for this venue and may be rejected. Final decisions in these matters will be made by a UWA Cultural Precinct committee.
MAJOR RULES FOR MACHINIMA
There is no limit to the number of entries you may choose to send in.
The theme is 'PURSUE IMPOSSIBLE' and you may interpret this theme as you see fit, however the average viewer would need to be able to appreciate how you fit this theme (alternatively, please indicate in the notes how it fits in the film notes on the web).
Your machinima must be made specifically for this challenge, and the following should be indicated in the opening credits 'For The University of Western Australia's MachinimUWA VIII: Pursue Impossible'
You do not have to film on the UWA sims, however this of course will be appreciated, and there is a Special UWA Prize which will be made available to a film which starts at the same point as the UWA Pursue Impossible Video, at Winthrop Clock Tower.
4 mins 30 seconds is the strongly recommended maximum length, but this is not a hard rule.

Project Sansar Summary

Please review blogger Inara Pey's post for an excellent compilation of currently known public facts about the new Sansar Project here: http://modemworld.me/2015/07/25/the-sansar-summary-july-2015/

This is the best summary I've seen so for of pubic information that's been released and well worth a read if you have an interest (as we all should) in the new Linden Lab Sansar Project.  She cites her sources and everything for a good comprehensive picture of what we might come to expect.

LICK, Explore in Second Life

Visit here:http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Oyster%20Bay/128/128/10

The LICK sim has been redone and once again it's a great explore, place to play, hangout, and take pics.  I've blogged this sim that changes periodically here: http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2015/04/lick-sim-design-end-of-world-as-we-know.html where you can see the last design there.

LICK Sim Designs-The McFly Project by owner and creator Sera Bellic is located at Oyster Bay(63,205,22) "LICK sim design offers complete sim/parcel design, landscaping and interior design. LICK is dedicated to creating beautiful, enchanting spaces for your home or business.  If you can DREAM IT, LICK can CREATE IT."

LICK The landing spot placed me in a highly detailed and actually gorgeous old run-down carnival type area.  After exploring and playing around, I crossed the carnival grounds and entered a small doorway into the cliff wall, walked down a path into caves where there is a lower level filled with sci fi cyber type equipment, then up across a bridge and out into another open area that is a futuristic set on a watery field.  There are various build units, 2 typs of boat rezzers you can zoom around in, a sky bar, pretty nature areas with plenty of seating spots and plenty to see and do all set against a beautiful cliff waterfall backdrop.   Both sections have a lot of fun things to click, pose and animate on, so be sure to just click everything if you like that.  Windlights work great and it's also a fun place for photographers.

Tristan un Isolde Opens 7-15-15 at 1:30pm SLT

Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner
Installation by  Giovanna Cerise
Introduction by  Francesco Bonetto
Opening  Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 1.30 pm slt

The press release states:
"Wagner wrote in a letter to Liszt ( December 1854):
“As I have never in life felt the real bliss of love, I must erect a monument to the most beautiful of all my dreams, in which, from beginning to end, that love shall be thoroughly satiated. I have in my head "Tristan and Isolde," the simplest but most full-blooded musical conception; with the "black flag" which floats at the end of it I shall cover myself to die” (  http://www.the-wagnerian.com/2012/10/the-birth-of-tristan-und-isolde-wagners.html )

Tristan und Isolde (Tristan and Isolde, or Tristan and Isolda, or Tristran and Ysolt) is an opera, or music drama, in three acts by Richard Wagner to a German libretto by the composer, based largely on the romance by Gottfried von Strassburg

Second Life to Be Featured on Dr. Phil

Second Life to Be Featured on Dr. Phil

Well, I'm not sure how to get this whole post and pic to share into Blogger but see more here: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/Second-Life-to-Be-Featured-on-Dr-Phil/ba-p/2947485

The SL featured news blog in the link above talks about how talk show host Dr. Phil will air an episode tomorrow 7-14-15 about a young man struggling with a number of problems, including an addiction to playing an online game. Thankfully the blog post says, " He’s not a Second Life user, nor is Second Life presented on the show as a negative experience. Instead, it’s shown as an example of how far digital experiences have come from the days of Pac-Man and Pong, and Ebbe briefly speaks with Dr. Phil about some of the incredibly positive ways Second Life is being used by people around the world - from education to entrepreneurship, creative self-expression, and more."

Apparently Dr. Phil will be in SL on an avatar and will be seen on a 40 ft. monitor.  According to the post he had some help stying his avatar to look like him.  Tune in!

Since posting this I went looking for other blogs hoping to find even more detail.. Daniel Voyager has posted a little more here: https://danielvoyager.wordpress.com/2015/07/13/dr-phil-talk-show-will-be-featuring-second-life-and-ebbe-altberg-on-14th-july-2015/

Shit Kicker's Club and Beautiful Sim Opens 7-9-15 Great Club, Great Sim, Great Staff

Visit here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Amethyst%20Nights/128/128/25
Shit Kickers
Shit Kickers

Shit Kicker's is scheduled to open, or I should say re-open, tomorrow after having been closed for over a year.  The owner, MO (m0ndrake) together with his partner Sassie (Sassie.Criss) and with landscaper Nan Ember of "Nanscapes" have created this great environment and club.  The previously very successful club will open it's doors at 2pm SLT tomorrow Thursday 7-9-15.

I dropped into the sim at the landing and immediately noticed the fantastic scenery.  Being an explorer I was on the run to see it all, not really knowing what I had somewhat randomly dropped into.   I was just about to start snapping photos when BAM I was ejected.  Before I was sent home I noted a man also standing where I landed so once home I quickly checked his profile and found him to be the sim owner and immediately IM'd him to ask what was up with that.   Mo advised me the sim is not quite ready but will be open to the public tomorrow and wasn't even sure how I found it or got in.  LOL.. okkk then.  Must have been SL magic and meant to be.  But lucky me he then took pity on my need to see all things cool SL and let me back in and in spite of doing some finishing touches to the sim work took a lot of time to answer all my usual questions.  He was very friendly and informative.  I teased him about ejecting me and he jokingly said he does have a rep to live up to, lol, but really he seems like a great guy and let me right back in when I Im'd him.

When asked what type of music the sim would feature as the name "Shitkickers" screams country, Mo indicated the music will generally be about 60% country, some 80s rock some of that new rap country shit he said and then whatever people want and request.  While I was there country music was streaming while they worked and showed a few people around.

Mo gave me a little of the back history saying 6-7 years ago Sassie owned many sims, Sands of Freedom, which were attached motorcycle sims with residential etc.  She was actually Mo's first landlord and ironically enough she wrongly accidentally evicted him and that's how they met and hit it off and they were together 3-4 years in SL then.  All those old sims have since been closed.  A little over a year ago MO purchased a club then soon after together they opened Shit Kickers and he said it was an immediate success with lots of great staff and attendees.  They closed the club and MO went first life for about a year and now is back.  Together with Sassie they started to work up this current sim for Shit Kickers again about 3 weeks ago.  They engaged Nan Embers for the sim landscaping and she's done am amazing job.  The club build is Mo's and remains the same.  He said he has a history of building, scripting, mesh work, etc.  Sassie has been good friends with Nan from way back and together they all make a great team in developing this sim.  They have most of their old staff back and he said one of the biggest compliments a club can have is that their staff love to hang out even when not working which he said is the case here.  He was very complimentary of Sassie, Nan, and his staff. He said their club is unique in that there are "no apologies" which has sort of become their trademark saying, meaning come and have fun and no need to apologize for a little colorful language or whatever and just relax and enjoy as long as no one is getting hurt.  The club will have a limited number of selected shops but they wont have a lot of big advertising around,  just a focus on the club and sim enjoyment.  The sim chatter will be limited to the club and up the main walk in the few stores.  The rest of the sim won't hear the club chatter which will be nice for explorers and people hanging out just enjoying the gorgeous sim.  They feel the club and setting are unique and clearly they have a passion for what they are doing here.

The sim features the club but is an amazing explore thanks to Nan's landscaping.  It has a general country feel with lots of nature areas, some great pose and cuddle spots, a beach, a sort of swamp, nice waterfalls, cliffs and waterways, a memorial area, a barn with animals around, some great bridges and windmill, some scenic walking roads, and a cute sort of campy dock area.

All are welcome to come enjoy the club and explore and hang out in this impressive sim.

I first saw this sim blogged today by Ziki Questi here: http://zikiquesti.blogspot.com/

The sim by Isabelli Anatine Hak and NekoZombie-Raw (NekoZombie78) is said to only be open for about 2 weeks so I wanted to blog it quick so everyone can see it if they missed Ziki's post.. but do go over and read her information as she says a lot and has some great very different photos and I'm basically just putting it here so different people are sure to see it and of course as always to save for myself the things I love in my SL.

Dreamers by Cica Ghost in LEA24

Visit here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/LEA24/128/128/0
Cica Ghost has done it again. She continues to impress me with her creations and the latest is  Dreamers at LEA24.  I took a bunch of pics.  When you visit be sure to click on the heads in the garden as many of them will teleport you to various other dream areas which are also immersive and you can click around in them too for animations and pose spots.  It's great for exploring and photography.  Everyone else is blogging it too so I'll just post some pics.
